Misa is a slender, most likely average-sized to tall female. Her hair is blonde in coloration, probably dyed, and reaches well past her shoulders. Her skin color is a light pink or pale, which contrasts with her usual dress. Misa wears clothing of the gothic persuasion, most of the time the clothes are provocative in nature. Takeshi Obata states he imagined an "energetic Japanese artist" with a "foriegn Rock and Roll singer"2.
Personality:
To Mr. Tsugumi Ohba, creator of Death note, Misa is a "cute female" who is "spontaneous and not too bright"1. Both her spontaneity and slight idiocy can be seen when she makes her presence known to Light, aka Kira, through video tapes shown on Sakura TV. At times, she can be hyperactive, most of it (assuming) can be put towards her occupation as an actress and model. Misa retains exceptional acting abilities, which she uses to help Light in various ways. (While Light uses her.) She will willingly sacrifice herself for light, doing anything she needs to to make sure he is not captured or killed. Though, she will not allow any personal feelings to interfere with his plans.

History:
Misa's parents were killed by a criminal when she was younger. That incident combined with the killing of that criminal led to her love for Kira, and eventually Light. She came to Japan to look for "Kira". Misa used one method to find out who Kira was. First, she sent tapes to Sakura TV and told them to broadcast them. Being Kira believers, Sakura TV broadcast the tapes as commanded. Through little twist and turns, Misa used the eyes of the Shinigami to spot Light among a crowd of people. (The place she said they would meet in her journal was where she spotted him.) From there, she gathered information from his name, found out where he was, touched his death note...yadda yadda...Here, in the presence of Kira, she professed her love for Light. Her cause? He was the killer of the criminal.

Misa started her career in acting / modeling when she was about six years old. Her father, a well known pianist, got her into the business using his own connections. He got her in just in time. Within a few months, he and his wife were killed by a lowlife wandering the streets. Misa heard of her parents death when she was on the set of one of her movies. At first, she was so upset she would not stop crying for weeks on end. Every time her guardian tried to put her to sleep, she would wail on for hours, mourning the death of her parents. She grew up in the care of guardians, until her sister was old enough to take care of her. They moved out of Japan for a little while, to further Misa's career. Not long afterwards, the Kira killings began. Originally, Misa thought the killings were horrible, until she found out the criminal who killed her parents was killed. She was overjoyed, for the prosecutors kept pushing back the time for the criminal's penalty or would constantly attempt to give him a slap on the wrist. Misa already planned to move back to Japan just to be near Kira, when a mysterious note was found on her doorstep...
